Where the light work class ROV sits in the size band
Light work class is the step up from observation and inspection class and the step below heavy work class. The Saab Seaeye Leopard is the canonical light work class ROV, electric, IRM capable, manipulator led and able to sustain full work class missions without the HPU and deck footprint of a Schilling HD or equivalent heavy WROV.
It suits offshore wind subsea work, shallow construction support, sustained IRM on light DSVs and any campaign where heavy WROV capability is over built for the day rate.
Why the light work class ROV trades on the secondary market
New build Leopard class systems carry long lead times and growing demand from wind and IRM operators. Late life and ex-fleet light work class ROV spreads come to the brokering desk as contractors rotate fleets or close out major campaigns, that is typically the fastest credible route to operational capacity.

How does a light work class ROV differ from a heavy WROV?
Heavy WROVs, for example the Schilling HD, are 150 to 250hp+ hydraulic spreads built for deep IRM, drilling support and subsea construction. Light work class trades some depth, hp and tooling envelope for a much smaller operational footprint.
