The Dockstr team brokers used surface supplied diving equipment across the marine and offshore industries: complete containerised dive spreads, deck decompression chambers, dive control and machinery containers, LARS, panels, helmets and umbilicals. Spreads reach the market in a range of certification states, in class with ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register or BV, built to class, or IMCA compliant, and we document the certification status of every asset in the data pack. We value the equipment first, drawing on our proprietary transaction dataset, then define the pool of qualified buyers based on what is offered for sale. We manage the deal from first engagement through to completion. Talk to our team about a buy or sell requirement.

Buying

Buy a complete used surface supplied dive spread or individual components: specify scope (full containerised spread, standalone DDC, dive control container, machinery / compressor container, LARS, helmets or panels), depth and gas requirements, and any class or IMCA requirements. We will source matched stock from contractors and lay-up inventory worldwide.

Selling

Releasing a containerised dive spread, deck decompression chamber, dive control or machinery container, LARS, helmets, diving tools or a surface supplied package? Classed and IMCA-audited spreads attract established IMCA contractor buyers and price stronger, we approach the global commercial diving companies worldwide.

In detail

How this segment is brokered

A complete used surface supplied dive spread is typically built around a 20ft containerised deck decompression chamber (DDC), a dive control container housing the dive panel, comms and bailout, and a machinery container carrying LP and HP compressors, HP storage and hot water units. A LARS or launch frame, helmets, umbilicals and ancillary kit complete the package.

Operators buy spreads rather than piecemeal items when project timelines are tight, when a vessel of opportunity needs a turnkey diving capability, or when a contractor is standing up a new IMCA-compliant operation. Air spreads cover inshore and shallow offshore scopes; mixed-gas spreads extend the working depth and are typically built to higher IMCA D 023 and D 024 reference standards.

Spreads originate from completed contracts, contractor fleet renewals, lay-up inventory and asset recoveries across the UK, Norway, the Gulf, Southeast Asia and the Gulf of Mexico.

Deck decompression chambers traded on the secondary market are usually twin-lock units mounted in a 20ft ISO container frame for road, sea and offshore-deck deployment. Larger spreads pair the DDC with a transfer-under-pressure (TUP) interface to a diving bell or wet bell where the scope warrants it.

Recognisable builders in active circulation include JFD, Drass, Divex, Hydrospace, Unique Group and SMP. We document the chamber’s pressure vessel certification (PVHO documentation, last special survey, class society and notation where applicable) in every data pack so buyers can assess re-certification scope before commitment.

Used dive spreads carry a range of certification statuses. A spread may be in class with ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register or BV, with current certificates and a recent special survey, it may have been built to class but allowed certification to lapse, or it may be IMCA compliant without active class. Each status carries a different price and buyer pool.

IMCA compliance and class are not the same thing: IMCA is a contractor and equipment audit framework that governs how diving operations are run, while class is a third-party certification of the pressure vessel and system itself by a recognised society. Buy-side requirements often call for both.

Where class has lapsed, reinstatement is usually achievable subject to survey, PVHO work and any outstanding class conditions. We can scope the recert path with class society partners as part of the data pack so buyers understand the route to a fully classed asset.

Helmets are an active single-item line, used Kirby Morgan helmets sell quickly when service records are current. Dive control panels, LP and HP compressors, hot water units and umbilicals also trade standalone, typically into operators building or upgrading an existing spread. Buyers are commercial diving contractors, dive schools, inshore inspection operators, port and harbour authorities and defence customers.

Single helmet sales remain the most common transaction in this category, complete spreads are lower frequency but materially higher value. Buyers are commercial diving contractors, dive schools, inshore inspection operators, port and harbour authorities and defence customers.

FAQ

Common questions

Typically a 20ft containerised deck decompression chamber (DDC), a dive control container (panel, comms, bailout), a machinery and compressor container (LP and HP compressors, HP storage, hot water unit), a LARS or launch frame, helmets, umbilicals and ancillary kit. Scope varies, we list the as-built configuration in every data pack.

Some are in class with ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register or BV with current certificates, some were built to class but have lapsed, some are IMCA compliant without active class. We document the exact status of each asset before listing.

IMCA is a contractor and equipment audit framework governing how diving operations are conducted. Class is a third-party society certification of the pressure vessel and system itself. Buy-side requirements often need both, the two are complementary, not interchangeable.

Usually yes, subject to survey, PVHO work and any outstanding class conditions. We can scope the reinstatement path with class society partners as part of the pre-sale data pack so buyers can price the route to a fully classed asset.

Both. We broker single helmets, panels and other standalone components as well as complete containerised spreads. Standalone items suit operators building or upgrading an existing spread, complete spreads suit those standing up a full diving capability.

The UK, Norway, the Gulf, Southeast Asia and the Gulf of Mexico carry the bulk of available surface supplied stock at any given time.
