ROV lock and latch (running latch)
This lock and latch system is typically used in the deployment and recovery of ROVs operating in free-swimming mode. The system comprises a ‘bullet’ that attaches to the ROV lift point and a ‘running latch’ that slides or ‘runs’ along the tether or umbilical and is connected to the deployment/recovery wire (usually a deck mounted crane or winch).
During deployment, the bullet and running latch are locked together allowing the ROV to be lowered into the water. Once in the water, the latch mechanism is manually activated at which point the bullet disconnects from the latch and the ROV is freed from the deployment/recovery wire and can be deployed to depth.
Recovery of the ROV is the reverse of deployment. The latch mechanism is lowered down (along) the tether until it automatically latches onto the bullet (using gravity) at which point the ROV can be recovered to deck.
Versatile deployment options
Manufactured from stainless steel, the lock and latch system is available in different configurations and for different types of ROV or other deployment applications:
Three options with different internal (cable) diameters: 20mm, 22mm and 35mm;
Lock (bullet) length: 160mm, 200mm and 320mm;
Safe working load (SWL): 0.5 Ton or 2 Ton;
Designed to be gentle on the tether/umbilical;
Easy-to-use gate mechanism allows for quick and simple tether removal;
Compatible with a number of Remotely Operated Vehicles such as the Saab Seaeye Falcon, the DWTEK Investigator 90+ and most other observation/inspection ROVs;
Custom designed versions available for deployment of bespoke underwater packages. Contact us for options.
