Offering cable and umbilical carousels, tensioners, and routing systems for subsea installation and intervention.
Dockstr partners with Layback, a Norwegian specialist in engineered solutions for offshore cable and umbilical handling. With a design philosophy grounded in operational experience, Layback delivers equipment optimized for performance, safety, and ease of integration across a range of vessel and deck configurations.
Through this partnership, Dockstr offers access to Layback’s key technologies, including:
Cable and umbilical carousels – modular, transportable designs for efficient spooling and storage
Tensioners – precision-controlled systems for safe deployment and recovery under dynamic conditions
Cable routing systems – engineered for flexible deck layouts and high load management
Deck integration – including loading arms, track systems, and guidework tailored to project needs
All systems are designed for harsh marine environments and align with offshore installation standards. Dockstr works closely with clients to define and deliver fit-for-purpose handling solutions that support cable lay, IMR, and subsea intervention projects worldwide.
Lay Equipment Selection
Layback cable carousels are designed for efficient offshore cable storage and deployment, with capacities ranging from 250 to 2000 tonnes and custom sizes available on request. Featuring robust hydraulic or electric drive systems with optional redundancy, the carousels ensure high reliability and minimal downtime.
Available in both indoor and outdoor configurations, including optional wall and roof panels for long-term cable protection. The 250t version is modular and road-transportable, fitting into two standard 20ft containers for flexible port logistics.
Layback tensioners are modular systems for controlled cable handling, with pulling capacities ranging from 100 kg to 25 tonnes. Options include lightweight, portable mini units for field operations, medium models for yard and storage use, and heavy-duty offshore tensioners for installation campaigns.
Systems can be scaled by combining modules and are available in both indoor and outdoor versions, with configurations tailored to specific cable paths and project needs.
A range of support equipment designed to guide, protect, and control cables during handling and installation. Suitable for both short-term mobilisations and long-term vessel integration, these systems accommodate routing across deck structures, towers, and overboarding points.
From loading arms, deck rollers, and quadrant frames to custom routing systems, interface structures, guide tubes, and hang-off assemblies, each solution is engineered for your project-specific requirements, including load capacity, cable dimensions, and environmental conditions.
Our knowledge of offshore installation and cable handling allows Dockstr to match client requirements with the most suitable solutions, including options from the Layback portfolio.
